Laser Dentistry

High-Tech Dental Repair Methods

Laser dentistry is an accurate and minimally invasive dental repair method that does not require drills or scalpels. In our practice, we make use of lasers that treat teeth, bone and gum tissue to ensure a safe, accurate and less traumatic procedure.

BIOLASE REPaiR

The REPaiR periodontitis laser protocol is the first step-by-step treatment that uses an Er,Cr:YSGG laser in assisting with moderate and severe periodontitis. There are three phases:

PRE SURGICAL PHASE

This phase is dedicated to removing bacteria, plaque and tartar from beneath the gum line, and assessing your level of oral hygiene compliance. Occlusal treatment and the splinting of your teeth may be options during this phase.

SURGICAL PHASE

Your catered surgical plan may require laser elimination of diseased tissue, removal of residual root surface tartar deposits, smoothing of bone discrepancies, debriding/flushing of periodontal pocketing and gentle manual compression of gum tissue to the tooth surface.

POST SURGICAL PHASE

This phase requires you to brush your teeth very lightly. After about one week, you are able to gently clean between your teeth using an interproximal brush dipped in mouthwash. We will allow your gum tissues to heal and reattach to the tooth surface, then re-evaluate your periodontal health after about three months.

WaterLase iPlus™

The WaterLase iPlus™ Dental Laser is used for pediatric and adult restorative dental repairs. By combining YSGG laser energy and a spray of water, a safe surgical method is achieved and the need for anesthetics decreases. Because there is no friction or vibration with this water laser, it is a more comfortable method for an array of treatments.

Waterlase iPlus LaserHard/Soft Tissue Recontouring

If you have uneven or receding gums, we are able to use our state-of-the-art lasers to create a more even gum line aesthetic. By removing or reshaping hard and soft tissue, we can re-contour a more natural-looking gum line and smile for the future.

Laser Frenectomies

A frenectomy is a procedure for a child that consists of releasing the frenum under the upper lip or tongue to allow for a better range of motion. Children who are born “tongue tied” or “lip tied” may have restricted movements, resulting in speech or airway difficulties. The laser that we use does not cut into the skin, but rather acts as a method to vaporize the tissue. Because there is very little discomfort associated with the laser treatment, most children and babies sleep through the dental repair procedure.
